Sheridan Legal would like to express our gratitude to the firefighters, pilots, volunteers, farmers and emergency services for protecting our community from the bush fires these past few months. Your efforts are beyond commendable.
Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected by this tragedy.
Attorney General Mark Speakman and Minister for Customer Service Victor Dominello announced recently that people who have lost important identity documents in the NSW bushfires can have them replaced at no cost as a priority to help them recover as quickly as possible.
If you have been affected by the bushfire and need assistance replacing documentation, please don’t hesitate to contact our office on 6562 3300.
Events such as bushfires remind us of the importance of keeping important documents safe and stored away from your home so that they are safe in the event of a disaster. Sheridan Legal offer a safe custody facility for storing their client’s important documents, such as Wills, Powers of Attorney, Appointments of Enduring Guardian, Certificates of Title and Trust Deeds.
Not only do we keep client’s documents in our safe custody facility so that they remain safe from fire, theft or damage, we also upload an electronic image of such documents to our secure cloud database. We are also required to keep a safe custody document register, with full particulars of all such documents that we hold in safe custody on behalf of our clients, which is linked to the electronic copy of the client’s documents. This allows us to quickly access a copy of any of our client’s documents at any time.
To ensure the security of our client’s documents we go through a verification of identity process when clients place documents in safe custody. Clients are then required to provide suitable identification before any documents held in safe custody are released to them. This ensures that there is no unauthorised access to our client’s documents.
By placing your important documents in safe custody, you will have peace of mind that such documents will not be lost, misplaced, destroyed or stolen. In the event that you are unable to locate your important documents such as a certificate of title this could lead to significant expense if it has to be replaced. If your will is lost, misplaced or destroyed and cannot be located, on your death this could lead to your property being distributed in a different manner to what you had intended in your will. All these examples show why it is important to keep your documents in a safe custody facility.
